Willock made just two Premier League starts for Arsenal in the first half of the season, so was clearly not key in Arteta’s plans.

However, no one will have expected the England under-21 international to have had the impact he has had in the north east.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Wednesday, where Willock scored the only goal, he remained tight-lipped over his future.

“To be honest with you, I haven’t thought about it,” Willock told Sky Sports.
