Barack Obama lays bare Malia and Sasha’s ‘PTSD’ from Secret Service chaperones on dates

The 44th President joked about his daughters, Malia and Sasha, feeling embarrassed whenever Secret Service agents would chaperone them on dates. He told The Late Late Show’s James Corden how the young women, now aged 22 and 19 respectively, still “have PTSD” from those days.

He said: “First of all, them as teenagers having Secret Service guys follow them when they were going out on dates, I think probably has shut down their interest in public service.

“They still have PTSD from guys talking into their wrist microphones and glasses as they’re trying to go to a music concert.”

Mr Obama also spoke to Mr Corden about his daughters’ future and the chances of them assuming a the public service charge.

He criticised the “silliness and meanness” as a public service worker but added that he would be “proud” of his daughters if they chose that path.

Mr Obama said: “You have to have a certain tolerance for nonsense and silliness and meanness, frankly, to go into public service. As a father, I want to protect my girls from that stuff.”

He added: “I think they are probably going to find other ways to serve rather than run for office themselves, but you never know.

“If they decided to do it, obviously I would be extraordinarily proud of them.”

Mr Obama also addressed his tell-all memoir about the eight years he spent as US President.
