If Luis Suarez gets his hands on the La Liga title later this evening, justice will have been served. It’s almost as if hanging a club legend, who helped win a staggering 13 trophies, out to dry was a bad decision.
The Barca board were clear last summer when they pushed Suarez out of the door that they were heading in a new direction.
Yet the team has significantly regressed under Ronald Koeman, who was a key figure behind the decision to offload Suarez.
The Uruguayan has soon come back to haunt his old side. He has fired in 20 La Liga goals this season for Atletico, who will win the title this evening should they win at Real Valladolid.
His strikes have been worth an incredible 17 points this season and he has proved the difference for Diego Simeone’s side, who have not been a serious title contender for many years having last won La Liga in 2014.

The club are set to bring in Sergio Aguero from Manchester City on a free transfer, which really does call their transfer policy into question.
There’s no doubt Aguero has been one of the best strikers of the past decade. Nobody can doubt his pedigree.
But what sense does it make when you’re bringing in another centre-forward who is not operating at the same level of Suarez and who is now potentially over the hill?
Aguero played just 11 times in the Premier League this summer and while he still has something to give, he is not as reliable as Suarez in terms of availability.
The Argentine, who turns 33 next month, has had to endure his fair share of fitness and injury issues in the past five years.
If Barcelona were to bring in Erling Haaland, the decision to get rid of Suarez would have been easier to digest.
It simply has to go down as one of the biggest transfer mistakes in recent memory. If not the biggest.
And if Suarez lifts the La Liga title aloft this evening with Atletico, it is likely to signal the end of Barcelona’s super club status. They will no longer be taken seriously.
