British shopping icon Selfridges to get new Thai owners in £4bn deal


The group is already Thailand’s biggest department store operator and is currently run by Tos Chirathivat, the grandson of the company’s founder.

Central Group was founded in 1947 and was responsible for opening Thailand’s first department store in 1956.

The family are something of a household name in Thailand and one of the richest Thai families.

Central Group already owns a number of department chains in Europe including Rinascente in Italy, Globus in Switzerland and KaDeWe in Germany.
