As a TV chef creating delicious meals, it is no surprise that Jamie Oliver’s weight has fluctuated over the years. But at one point during his life, he changed his diet and lost two stone “quite quickly”. Here’s how he did it.

For anyone looking to lose weight, one great place to start is by assessing the foods you’re eating regularly.

This is something Jamie did, swapping meat for more vegetables.

As a result, his body transformation happened “quite quickly”.

The chef explained: “I pushed meat down, pushed veggie up, got more sleep and more movement.

“I lost 12 kilos (two stone) quite quickly and I didn’t do it through not eating – I ate a lot, more than I used to.”

Seaweed also contains fucoxanthin, which is thought to help increase metabolism.

The TV chef spoke to Daily Mail about the benefits of eating the green vegetable back in 2015: “I thought seaweed was hippy, globetrotting stuff but our ancestors ate seaweed. It’s the most nutritious vegetable in the world.”

To add to this, Jamie also cut back on alcohol.

He commented: “Your average Brit drinks booze. I’m not telling you what to do, but my rhythm now is only to drink at the weekend.”

“Previously, if I organised training in my time, I hated it. But then I was like, why is it that I can get up for a 3.30am call and be on set and smash the shit out of it and yet getting to the gym is too hard?

“So I just shifted it so that the gym was on the way to work and it was part of the working day.

“The minute I did that I got really good at it. It’s totally mental.

“It’s not about getting it right all the time, in fact, it’s absolutely vital that you don’t get it right all of the time. You’ve just got to get it right most of the time,” he told Men’s Health.

Permission is often needed from neighbouring homes to dig into gardens and driveways to “de-loop” the cables.

WPD has estimated that by 2030, there will be a million new car registrations each year and 600,000 heat pumps, in order for the Government to reach its net zero targets.

The company covers around a third of UK homes which means they could face as many as 2,000 installations each day.

Whether a household pays for their own upgrade, what upgrade they need and how much they are expected to pay will depend on where the property is in the country and who manages the network.

Government regulator Ofgem said network operators should offer households free upgrades and allow homeowners to spread the cost across their bills.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks charges up to £200 for upgrades to the cut-out and more for cable upgrades.

A high blood pressure diet does not have to entail eating bland foods. Turning to Eastern culture, scientists have discovered a powerful bean which reduces the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) that constricts blood vessels resulting in high blood pressure.

Mung beans are tiny, oval-shaped beans are available in several forms, with the peeled version popular in Indian dishes, and the processed version of bean sprouts and starch noodles more common in Asian cuisine.

In a study published in the journal Human and Experimental Toxicology, scientists discovered that mung beans are highly effective at inhibiting LDL oxidation due to their potent free-radical scavenging properties.

The versatile mung bean has also been shown to target another significant cardiovascular disease risk factor in high blood pressure.

Hypertensive rats supplemented with mung bean sprout extracts for one month experienced significant reductions in systolic blood pressure.

Mung beans have a high concentration of phenols and protein fragments called peptides which help to reduce the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) that constricts blood vessels resulting in high blood pressure.

Recent studies involving 58,000 men and women aged 40-79 found that those with the lowest intakes of dietary magnesium had a 51 percent increased risk of heart disease mortality compared to those with the highest intakes.

Mung beans significantly improve magnesium levels and help to prevent heart attacks and damaging strokes.

Other studies highlight the benefits of mung beans for both hypertension and LDL cholesterol reduction.

Anti-cancer effects

Another study reported in the journal BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine showed that mung beans suppress the growth of liver and highly aggressive cervical cancer lines.

This was done through multiple mechanisms, including cytotoxicity, inducing anti-cancer cytokines, halting cancer cell cycle, and triggering apoptosis.

These beneficial modes of action might be responsible for mung bean’s protection against other cancers as well.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) explains that there is evidence to show that a healthy diet prevents the development of eye conditions, “although this link isn’t as strong as it is for other conditions such as heart disease”. The NHS recommends that most people should get their eyes tested every two years.

According to the Kraff Eye Institute, certain vitamin deficiencies can “negatively impact how we see”.

It explains: “Our ocular health depends on the balance of many nutrients, but some key vitamins improve eyesight.”

The health body says that vitamin A is an “essential” nutrient for the eyes.

It explains: “Vitamin A is a broad term used for a group of compounds called retinoids.”

READ MORE: Diabetes: How to ‘flush out’ excess sugar – signs of high blood sugar

“Retinol is the form of vitamin A derived from animal foods. In the eye, retinol is taken up by the retinal cells to make a pigment called rhodopsin.”

“Xerophthalmia is the term used to describe the constellation of symptoms that arise from vitamin A deficiency, including night blindness and dry eye, among others.”

The NHS says vitamin A, also known as retinol, has several important functions.

These include helping your body’s natural defence against illness and infection, helping vision in dim light and keeping skin and the lining of some parts of the body, such as the nose, healthy.

DON’T MISS:

RNIB also notes that some of the health complications of being overweight can cause problems that can affect your sight.

“These include retinal vessel occlusions, diabetic eye problems and eye conditions related to stroke.

“You can reduce your risk of developing these conditions, which can lead to sight loss, by maintaining a healthy weight or by losing weight if you need to,” it notes.

RNIB explains that how your diet may affect your eye condition depends a lot on the eye condition you have been diagnosed with.

There are several other factors that can affect your eye health, according to the NHS.

The health body says: “If you smoke you’re much more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration, which is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK, and cataracts, than people who do not smoke.”

It adds: “Getting out in the sun is important for your general health, but you need to protect yourself. Never look at the sun directly, even when something exciting such as an eclipse is happening.”

Age UK notes: “ The best way to make sure your eyes are healthy is to have regular eye checks. Many eye diseases can be treated successfully if they are detected early.”

There is currently no technology which would allow border officers to scan the face, passport and biometric details of every passenger while allowing them to remain in the vehicle.
