Conor McGregor teases title challenge after Charles Oliveira's win at UFC 262

Conor McGregor is never slow to insert himself into the narrative when something occurs in one of the weight classes he competes in.

And it didn’t take “The Notorious” long to get his name trending on social media as he took to social media to congratulate newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira after UFC 262.

Oliveira finished former three-time Bellator champion Michael Chandler via TKO just 19 seconds into the second round of their main event battle for the vacant undisputed title in Houston, Texas.

And, in the aftermath of the Brazilian’s title-winning performance, McGregor hopped onto Twitter to post a message of congratulations to Oliveira.

“Congrats to Oliveira on becoming the 11th UFC lightweight champion,” he posted.

“Wonder who Twelve is…”

It’s a bout that could propel the winner straight into a title fight with Oliveira, with former undisputed champ McGregor and ex-interim champion Poirier both keen to challenge for championship gold once their trilogy is settled.

UFC president Dana White wouldn’t be drawn on the possibility of the McGregor-Poirier winner being installed as the top contender to face Oliveira next, but Oliveira certainly seemed open to the idea.

During the post-fight press conference, Oliveira answered McGregor’s tweet and told him to focus on the task at hand before directing his attention toward him and the title.

“Conor. Worry about Dustin, then afterwards we’ll talk,” he said, through an interpreter.

“Conor, since you’re so tough, first of all, you beat Dustin. Then you come over to Brazil and I’ll put you on your a**.

“First he has to pass Dustin. He’s just one of these guys who talks a lot. He’s got to get past Dustin first.”
