Paul Carter, 75, was one of the first to be protected as he received his shot at a store in the Merrion Centre, Leeds. Superdrug delivered more than 187,000 vaccines at 19 of its pharmacy sites during the initial rollout.

Its healthcare director, Michael Henry, said the high street jabs were “a significant step forward in protecting the most vulnerable”.

Patients must book their boosters through the NHS, once invited.
