Xur will be back in the game this week following Guardian efforts to keep him in play for as long as possible in Destiny 2.
The elusive merchant is expected to be available again at one of his designated locations on Nessus, EDZ or The Tower at around 6pm BST.
Usually, Xur is brought back to the game on a Friday – this time October 29 – and is then removed for a short time on Tuesday during the weekly reset.
However, this week saw gamers keeping Xur in play longer by leaving one Guardian in close proximity to him, followed by another taking their place.
One Guardian confirmed they had been standing vigil for hours across the week, revealing on Reddit today:
“While hosting, I apologized to my family ~12 times for being an obsessive nerd. Fortunately, my family is awesome; even the folk who aren’t gamers “got it.”
“Many, many, many people thanked me on Reddit, in comments, in DMs, and in Reddit chat. My personal use of Reddit chat, over the 9 years I’ve had this account, is probably 99.999% in the last two days.
“Before anybody asks, it’s done, there is no more Xur. I tried to find an instance earlier today (Thursday morning) and couldn’t find anybody hosting, and then just a few hours ago everyone got booted for maintenance, sealing the deal on this event.” Posted by Klip Twings.
As mentioned above, this effort has now ended and it’s unclear how Bungie will respond to keeping Xur in the game for so long.
Efforts were being made so that as many Guardians as possible could try and grab a True Prophecy with Rangefinder and Timed Payload.
There is no clear way of knowing what Xur will be offering this week, but gamers should know soon after they track him down on his planet of choice.
And for anyone who has forgotten, Legendary Shards used by Xur are remnants of powerful items used to improve gear or trade for other stuff.
It should also be noted that Xur will be dropping items similar in power level to your character.
And another part of Xur that is new to the latest version of Destiny 2 is that he now drops Cipher Quests for free.
The Quest will reward you with an exotic Cipher, and last week included completing 21 Strikes or winning the same number of Crucible or Gambit matches.
Every week, Guardians can acquire one Exotic Engram using Legendary Shards that will decrypt as Exotics that aren’t already in your collection.
Xur was selling these exotic items last week – Graviton Lance for 29 Legendary Shards, Oathkeeper for 23, Ursa Furiosa for 23, Lunafaction Boots for 23 Legendary Shards.
This was followed by Xur resetting his items and offering The True Prophecy Hand Cannon, the Steel Sybil Z-14 Sword, and IKELOS Submachine Gun.
