Liverpool’s hopes of earning a Champions League place have suffered a blow after Diogo Jota was ruled out for the rest of the season. Jota picked up a foot injury in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Manchester United on Thursday and will miss today’s Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion.
The Portuguese forward scored in the crucial win at Old Trafford but has been replaced by Sadio Mane in the Reds’ line-up to face West Brom this afternoon.
Mane was captured on camera showing dissent to Jurgen Klopp after the final whistle on Thursday, but takes Jota’s place after apologising to his manager.
Jota has been fantastic for Liverpool in his first season since joining the club from Wolves, scoring 13 goals and registering one assist in 29 appearances for the club.
This setback is the 24-year-old’s second injury of the season: he previously missed 19 matches after injuring his knee in the Champions League against Midtjylland on December 9.
