TikTok user darianleigh92_ shared a clip of her Boston Terrier dog Archie dangling out of the front window by its harness while the car was stationary. However, during the clip, Darian says the dog had actually jumped out of the car “while it was moving”.
She said the clip was a ”good example” of why a tight-fitting harness and seatbelt were “so important” for pets.
Experts at TravelSupermarket have backed up the claims and urged road users to consider other options before a simple restraint.
Experts also urged motorists to never let their animal stick its head out of the window as it could lead to serious consequences.
They said: “Although your dog may enjoy sticking its head (and tongue) out of the window, it is unsafe to do so.

Not only could this put the animal in danger in the event of sudden movements or a crash but this could also distract the driver.
Road users are likely to be issued fines or points on their licence if their animal is not properly secured.
This could come under driving without due care and attention which has a maximum fine of £2,500 and nine penalty points.
According to TravelSupermarket, interest in dog harnesses surged by 200 percent last year.
