DVLA says new number plates launched earlier this month are 'more compatible' with cameras

The DVLA says owners of these vehicles will likely be punished by a Fixed Penalty Notice.

National Numbers said the new plates would be made of a “sturdier” and “more resilient material”.

It confirmed the main reason behind the changes was to “make it easier” for ANPR cameras to pick up drivers number plates.

National Numbers said: “This is a sturdier, more resilient material able to handle more damage, more bending, abrasion, impact, and thermal change, and will also show up clearer on ANPR cameras on UK roads.
