Emma Raducanu's US Open chances boosted as world No 1 Ash Barty suffers shock loss

“I am really happy that I was able to maintain and stay on it. For this one I knew the plan was I had to hit through her and hit the corners.”

The Brit is yet to drop a set through three qualifying matches and three main draw matches so far at the US Open, and appears to have won over the New York crowd who have been packing out the stands for her matches and cheering her on.

Raducanu thanked the crowd as she booked her spot in the fourth round, adding: “It has been two weeks in New York now, I never thought I’d be here so I am so excited. I am going to recover tomorrow and then back on it on Monday.

“The crowd are so amazing so I want to thank absolutely everyone.”

If she can overcome the world No 43 in the fourth round, she will then face the winner of an intriguing clash between recent Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic and 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek.
