In France’s city, Nantes, thousands of citizens took to the streets to march in tribute to Steve Caniço. Steve Caniço died at the age of 24 in 2019 after falling in the Loire river while attending a techno party. According to the latest conclusions from the Rennes prosecutor’s office, Steve Maia Caniço fell during “the intervention of the national police” came to disperse the gathering.
This news has caused frustration to bubble over further as people call for greater accountability from the police.
The gathering was authorised however the police were criticised for their conduct in dispersing the groups.

Videos have begun circulating on social media of clashes between the police and protestors as tensions erupted during the protests today.
In a press release, the prosecutor confirms that the judicial investigation opened for manslaughter established that Steve Maia Caniço had fallen in the Loire at “4:33 am, during the intervention of the National Police.
