This crescent Moon marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal, the tenth of the Islamic Hijri calendar.
As the Moon sighting determines the date of Eid, the date is subject to change around the world.
For example, in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Eid al Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday, May 13, as the Moon was not sighted on Tuesday, May 11.
In the UK Eid will also be celebrated on Thursday, May 13, making Ramadan 30 days long this year.
