Joe Biden has suggested he could run for a second consecutive term in the Oval Office, saying he believes he could win over former presidential foe, Donald Trump, once again. Speaking to CNN, he commented: “I believe I can beat Donald Trump again.”
The incumbent president, 79, has previously hinted he could be debating a second presidential bid in 2024.
But he said on Tuesday night he would likely decide whether to launch a new campaign following next month’s midterm elections.
The midterms are typically considered a verdict on public satisfaction with the president’s first two years in office.
Former US President, Donald Trump, who was defeated by Biden in 2020, has not confirmed whether he will stand for a second, non-consecutive term.
He has also indicated a decision on whether to put himself forward as a potential Republican nominee will come after the November elections.
President Biden is the oldest serving US president, and has faced questions over his health, should he re-run in two years’ time.
He said: “Look what I’ve gotten done. Name me a president in recent history that’s gotten as much done as I have in the first two years.
“Not a joke. You may not like what I got done, but the vast majority of the American people do like what I got done.

Dr Christopher Phelps, Associate Professor of American History, also argued Trump complicated his path to re-election through his post-presidential conduct.
He said the Republican Party had been “completely transformed” by Trump, but “a lot of Republicans now are nervous about all of the legal and personal baggage that he carries”.
He told Express.co.uk that his 2024 bid “largely hinges on Trump’s legal fate”.
He added: “It’s one thing to be controversial. It’s another thing to be a convicted criminal trying to seek the highest office in the land.”
Trump is facing several legal battles, and is most facing a criminal investigation over the alleged removal and storage of classified documents after he left the White House in January 2021.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation dramatically raided his Mar-a-Lago home in August, with the US Department of Justice investigation still ongoing.
He is also facing a defamation case from American writer E Jean Carroll, and a civil fraud lawsuit launched by New York attorney general, Letitia James.
