Arsenal great Thierry Henry claims Daniel Ek has already “reached out” to the Kroenke family regarding a first bid to buy the Gunners. Henry is one of three Arsenal legends who are part of the consortium led by Spotify owner Ek who plan to buy the north London club.
Ek is a lifelong Arsenal supporter and tweeted his desire to buy the club 10 days ago.
News of the Swedish entrepreneur’s desire to purchase the Gunners came after thousands of supporters gathered outside the Emirates to protest against the Kroenkes’ ownership.
The decision from Stan Kroenke to join the breakaway European Super League – which Arsenal have since withdrawn from – was the final straw for many fans.
However, displeasure towards Kroenke from supporters is not new.
Henry has spoken for the first time since it was revealed he would be part of the consortium.
And he revealed Ek has already made contact with the Kroenkes regarding an opening bid.
“He wants to reinject the Arsenal DNA, the identity that I think for me is long gone,” Henry said on Sky Sports.
“You don’t have Arsenal people there amongst the board that can sometimes show the right direction. That’s what Daniel wants to do.
“He already – I’ll give you something – he already reached out.
“He’s already said himself that he’s collected the funds the make sure he can put a good bid.
“Now, obviously they need to listen and see, [whether] they accept or not accept.”
Last week, the Kroenkes released a statement saying they have no intention to sell the club at the moment and want to bring success back on the pitch.
“In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club,” the statement read.
“We remain 100 per committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the Club. We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.
“Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this.
“Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.”
