Kamala Harris under fire as US Vice President actively 'avoids' US-Mexico border crisis

National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told Fox News Kamala Harris is actively “avoiding” to address border issues that have spun out of control. Mr Judd was responding to news that Vice President Harris will visit Guatemala and Mexico but not travel to the US southern border with Mexico where a buildup of new arrivals has emerged in the last few months. The crisis has seen thousands of migrants being held in cramped and overcrowded tents on the US border by officials while it is understood an astonishing 22,313 unaccompanied children are being held in police custody.

Mr Judd said: “If she goes to the US border people are going to expect her to fix the problem.

“So she avoids it.

“That’s disgusting because that’s putting politics ahead of what’s best for this country!”

He went on to hit out at Joe Biden and Ms Harris saying “that’s what the President and Vice President are supposed to do.”

Mr Judd went on to explain that the USA is open to migrants but stressed the process must be carried out lawfully.

The border official said: “We want to accept people into this country.

“But we want to do it legally, not illegally.”

He then hit out at “both the right and the left” for wanting to “continue to politicise” the border issue and lambasted the left for wanting to “excuse illegal immigration.”

The comments come as it was reported that an astonishing 22,313 unaccompanied children are being held in US custody at the border with Mexico.

Recent weeks have seen a spiralling migrant crisis on the USA’s southern border as President Joe Biden fails to get control of the situation as thousands of people from south and central America flee poverty, violence and hunger in their own countries.

Reports have said thousands of women and children are being kept in overcrowded and cramped tents which are only meant for hundreds.

Migration to the US from Mexico and northern triangle countries is increasing for the third time in seven years under Republican and Democratic presidents.

Anger has been growing at the Vice President over the crisis with one commentator branding Harris as trying to keep her “fingerprints” off the situation.

Chris Wallace told Fox News last week: “It doesn’t seem like they have much of an answer to the crisis at the border and maybe that she reason they’re not pushing it… she knows this is a mess and doesn’t want her fingerprints on it!”

Last month it was reported by Associated Press that one of every three encounters with families in March at the border resulted in them being kicked back from getting into the USA.

And 19,000 children travelling on their own were stopped at the Mexican border in March, highlighting how serious the crisis has become but Joe Biden has exempted unaccompanied children from pandemic-related expulsions from the USA, allowing them to remain in the United States to try and get asylum.
