Liverpool tactic slammed by Carragher after West Ham loss – 'Can't get my head around it'

Jamie Carragher has questioned Liverpool’s defensive tactics after they were beaten by West Ham on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s men had been in red-hot form of late but slipped up as West Ham dealt them a title blow at the London Stadium.

An Alisson own goal and strikes from Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma earned West Ham a well-deserved victory over Klopp’s Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold had equalised in the first half after West Ham’s early opener.

Fornals and Zouma netted within seven minutes of each later in the second half to put the Hammers in the ascendency.

Divock Origi grabbed one back for the Reds with seven minutes remaining but David Moyes’ men held on to claim the victory and climb above them in the table.

West Ham deserved the win on the balance of play and caused Liverpool huge problems with their lightning counter attacks throughout the match.

Jurgen Klopp’s three fears proved right as West Ham play Liverpool at their own game

“Nothing we just get the ball 60 yards from goal or them running through at our goalkeeper.

“Liverpool do it an awful lot and at least once a game the opposition will run through at the goalkeeper.”

Klopp admitted his side made too many mistakes after the defeat.

He said: “We lost too many balls that is why they had counter-attacks. At 1-1 we had them were we wanted. It looked like we lost a bit of patience, we had a lot of situations where we got to the touchline but could not make it count.

“They dropped really deep so it does not make it easy, you have to force and fight them down in the final third. Little things decided it and a few things went against us. We were not that calm in the decisive moments, they could not get us. When you try to put the ball into the box they had eight, nine players so we have to go again, do it again.

“We were not patient enough. We can be better 100%, you cannot always play your best result, you have to grind out a result but they scored three goals and we didn’t.”
