“Well worth checking out if you’re planning a trip to this beautiful part of England.”

Whitley Bay is a great seaside resort with plenty to do for the entire family.

There are arcades, a skate park, mini golf, and award-winning ice cream and fish and chips to try.

The Best Fish and Chip Restaurant in the UK 2020, Trenchers Restaurant & Takeaway, is located in Spanish City and may be worth a trip in and of itself.

User Takethe5th said: “We used the takeaway fish and chip shop which is situated on the beach-side of the building, close to the ramp down to the beach and we were astounded at the quality.

“Absolutely the most tasty and crunchy fish and chips ever. Shame it’s a five-hour drive for us but will definitely be back next year when we come again.”

Whitley Bay has a popular, clean sandy beach perfect for sandcastles.

St Mary’s Lighthouse was built in 1898 and is one of Whitley Bay’s main attraction.

Visitors can climb up the 137 steps for great views over the coast.

There is a nature reserve and wetland habitat, and seals are often spotted on the rocks.

User holidaymuchneeded said: “What a lovely place. Lovely little island. Quite surprised to find that seals actually sleep on the rocks behind. Beautiful views.”
