Macon sidekick brags Europe has delivered '20 million' vaccines to poor nations

The Secretary of State for European Affairs reassured there will be plenty of vaccine doses available for everyone in Europe. Mr Beaune also claimed 200 million doses of AstraZeneca would be delivered to poor countries as part of the Covax program.

Speaking to France Info, Mr Beaune said: “The European Union has ordered the largest amount of vaccines in the world.”

He also said Europe had “exported more than 700 million vaccines worldwide”.

However, to date, only 20 million have already been sent to poorer countries.

The rest have been distributed to commercial contracts.

Mr Beaune insisted that 200 million of these doses would be distributed to poor countries by the end of the year.

While Mr Macron was determined to put pension reform back on the table, Mr Beaune assured the reform would be “necessary when the time comes”.

He said: “We are not hiding it.

“It is still undefined.”

In France, COVID-19 infections are decreasing with 13,315 new infections reported on average each day.

There have been 6,839,494 infections and 115,007 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.

So far, France has administered at least 88,660,059 doses of COVID vaccines.

Assuming every person needs two doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 66.1 percent of the country’s population.

The Covax program is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

It is directed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The program began distributing vaccines in February 2021.

Though Covax promised 100 million doses by the end of March, this goal was not reached until July 6.

By mid-August of 2021, it had delivered 200 million vaccine doses to nearly 140 countries instead of the 600 million doses initially projected.
