Man Utd hero Roy Keane’s criticism of Bruno Fernandes ahead of Man City clash

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has criticised Bruno Fernandes for his body language ahead of today’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City. However, the former midfielder has still hailed the Portugal international. He merely believes he needs to cut out the theatrics and rally his side instead.

Manchester United go up against Manchester City today looking to build on their 3-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend.

David De Gea starts in goal, behind a back five consisting of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw.

In midfield, Fernandes has been deployed ahead of Fred and Scott McTominay.

And, up top, United have gone with Mason Greenwood and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, speaking before the match with City, club legend Keane has opened up on Fernandes.

And he feels the Portugal international, for all his talent, needs to stop ‘throwing his arms around’ at the club.

“If I played with him prior to Ronaldo coming he points to players where they should be running I wouldn’t have that.

“He’s a wonderful kicker of the ball, he gives the ball away a lot but not a criticism because he’s trying stuff.”

Keane also feels United are a ‘rollercoaster’ under Solskjaer, criticising his old side for their lack of consistency.

“This United team under Ole has been a rollercoaster,” he said.

“Obviously the last few months they’ve been so open so again we come into this game and again are saying which United side are going to turn up.

“We keep saying it obviously going forward they’ve got goals in them they’ve got quality but they’ve been so open in every game.

“Liverpool scored five Leicester scored four but even earlier before in the season so once again it’s a huge game for United and Ole and United have to turn up and show a performance.

“There’s ways of losing games Man City could turn up here and do a job but you can’t put the type of performance they did against Liverpool.

“The damage against Liverpool – they were so open the players left so much space Liverpool could have scored ten.

“You expect City to dominate possession and United have to get bodies back.

“Three centre backs, wing backs and United will have to rely on the counter-attack and show moments of quality which they have done.

“But can they shut up shop against City? It will be very difficult.”

Speaking before the game, meanwhile, Fernandes has opened up on his lack of goals this season.

“I’m never happy with myself,” he said.

“I want always to improve and do better. Every season I want to do better numbers than before.

“Playing more games, playing better balls, more assists, more goals.

“I still want to score goals and to score more goals than last season and I will do my best to reach that level.

“But it is what it is sometimes. The teams know me better and I don’t get the space I got in the beginning because I was someone coming from Portugal and most players didn’t know who Bruno is.

“Now the space is a little bit short for me, the time is a little bit short and I have to improve on that to be quick on shooting and passing and everything to make my game work.”
