Manchester United have now held Erling Haaland transfer talks with Mino Raiola

Manchester United have held talks about a blockbuster deal for Erling Haaland with Mino Raiola, according to reports. The Norway international is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target ahead of the summer window. But Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona are keen as well.

Manchester United could find themselves having to replace Edinson Cavani this summer.

But, regardless of what happens with the 33-year-old, the Red Devils are determined to win the race for Haaland.

The prospect of the Borussia Dortmund star leaving the Westfalenstadion has now increased in the wake of their Champions League exit to Manchester City earlier in the week.

Previously, it had been reported that United had declined a meeting with Raiola to discuss Haaland.

Yet Gazzetta dello Sport claim that conversations have now been held, with the player’s father Alf-Inge Haaland also involved.

It’s said the pair ‘visited’ the Red Devils to discuss a deal for Haaland, who has scored 21 Bundesliga goals from 23 matches this term.

But they’ve also talked to City, Real Madrid and Barcelona – meaning a move to United is far from guaranteed.

Solskjaer previously managed the striker at Molde, something that could work in their favour.

But they’ve missed out on Haaland in the past despite that close connection, with the Dortmund striker moving to Germany from Red Bull Salzburg back in the January transfer window of 2020.

Speaking last year, the striker hailed Solskjaer for helping him refine his shooting skills – insisting the 48-year-old deserves ‘a lot of credit’ for the role he played in his development.

“Solskjaer and I did some practice on finishing. Not just crosses. I remember he taught me some easy rules,” he said.

“The first one was one-touch [finishes]. That I don’t use too much power and trying to destroy the goal or the goalie with ball.

Alex Telles ‘to be used in Man Utd swap deal’

Chelsea may have signed perfect Haaland partner

Lionel Messi’s Barcelona anger explained

“I think that I was thinking about doing that and it was something new that he told me. I trained a bit on that, but without scoring, but at least I had it in my head after that training session.

“He has taught me a lot to be calm, and also be on your toes and come to those situations where the ball is coming.

“It is then you have the chance to score. He deserves a lot of credit for teaching me that.”

Haaland isn’t United’s only transfer target ahead of the summer window.

Raphael Varane is also on their radar, with the France international looking increasingly likely to leave Real Madrid behind.

The France international has been at the Bernabeu for a decade and, now, is eyeing a new challenge elsewhere.

United want a right-back to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, having seen Luke Shaw galvanise Alex Telles on the opposite flank.

And a central midfielder is being eyed, too, with Declan Rice of interest.

Meanwhile, Karen Brady thinks only the wealthiest clubs on the planet can sign Haaland – and thinks United are consequently in with a genuine shot of striking a deal.

She wrote in her column for The Sun: “The fee for the 20-year-old blond giant and serial goalscorer is said to be £100-£150million — a sum only affordable to the wealthier aristocracy among clubs.

“The two envoys have so far talked to hard-up Barcelona and Real Madrid and include the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea among their targets.

“Erling may have liked to join Leeds, where he was born and where his father played for three years, but I don’t think they are in the running.

“And, make no mistake about it, money is the critical factor.

“Daddy Haaland and his Italian mate are looking for, it is reported, £25m each in agent fees.

“Should this or the transfer fee prove beyond the reach of clubs, then Erling will remain at Borussia Dortmund for a season more.

“Dortmund spotted a big earner by astute operation in the teen market.”
