Michael Jackson and his talented brothers, the Jackson 5, were brought up with strict disciplinarian Joseph as their father. The patriarch of the family would work his boys hard so they would give the best performances possible. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1993, Michael revealed he was terrified of his father as a child.

Michael said: “He was very strict, very hard, very stern.

“With just a look he would scare you. [I was] very scared, frightened of him.”

He went on to add: “There were times he would come to see me and I would regurgitate [out of nerves].”

With a coy look to the camera, the King of Pop said: “He’s never heard me say this, I’m sorry! Please don’t be mad at me!”

During the same interview Michael also admitted “yes, he did [hit me]” during childhood.

Years later, Oprah spoke candidly about her time interviewing Michael.

On top of noting the star’s candour and manners in the interview, she added that he still had strong feelings about his father to that day.

Joseph went on: “I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick.”

Throughout the interview with Oprah, Michael’s mental health was a hot topic.

He also spoke candidly about his appearance and alleged plastic surgery.

The star admitted to having a nose job before adding that the rest of the rumours about his face were “false”.

Michael said: “I have never had my cheekbones done, never had my eyes done, never had my lips done.”

He went on to add: “I try not to look in the mirror.

“I’m never happy with what I see.”
