Newcastle confirm £12m capture of Kieran Trippier as huge January splash out starts

Trippier, 30, joins Newcastle from the Spanish capital after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus from English football when he left Tottenham in the summer of 2019.

Having rose through the Manchester City academy, Trippier made his name at Burnley where he earned a name as one of England’s best young right-backs at Turf Moor.

With his side relegated, he moved to Tottenham, where he was the eventual replacement for City-bound Kyle Walker, making 114 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Yet defeat in the 2019 Champions League final – incidentally at the home of his future employers Atletico Madrid – saw him move abroad for a new challenge, where he won a league title under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano.

And with the new Newcastle era set to blossom in terms of signings, Trippier has reminded fans that having pushed himself by moving to Atletico, he is more than capable of taking on yet another new challenge at St. James’ Park.
