The former pro admitted he wanted to see the world No 1 back in action this year, but doubted it would happen.

“As for the question of what I expect for the rest of the year, I would like to see Djokovic in Paris-Bercy and at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin 2021, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided not to play again in the rest of the season,” he said.

Djokovic himself admitted he had no set plans for the remainder of his season following his US Open final loss, having given his full attention to his attempt to make history in New York.

“To be honest, I don’t have a plan, absolutely nothing,” Djokovic said during his post-finals press conference.

“I don’t know whether I’ll play anything, anywhere. Right now, my mind is only here, in New York.”
