“You have got to see what’s out there!” “You need to move one.” “You don’t know what you’re missing.” “It’s about time you find someone.” It’s inevitable to hear one of these phrases in your lifetime, especially after getting dumped or going through a dry spell. Online dating is a great way to go back into the dating world, see what’s out there, and find that ‘someone’.

Whether you’ve been away from the dating world for a while, your first foray back will be challenging. But, don’t be concerned, and you’re not alone. You can get guidance from an online dating coach.

As accessible as online dating is, it can also be quite daunting. You’re not alone if you’re apprehensive about getting yourself out there. Here are some tips that will help you return to online dating.

  1. Self-love is key

“How can you expect someone to love you if you don’t love yourself?” As cheesy as that phrase sounds, it holds merit. You must learn to care about yourself before asking someone else to do that. Make sure you exercise, meditate, and eat well. Be keen on your mental health as well as your physical well-being. If you are self-conscious about your appearance, figure out the things in your control and work on them. Read a book on self-love and confidence. Pursue a new hobby.

  1. Figure out what you want

You need to know where you want to go before buying a ticket. Take a moment to consider what you want in a companion and a relationship. It may involve feeling protected, attractive, and visible, as well as being able to engage in a two-way conversation. Consider your previous relationships and what you liked and disliked about them. Rather than developing a checklist of physical characteristics, consider the basic values you seek in a partner and the type of life you intend to establish with them.

  1. It’s time for a makeover

First impressions matter way more than you’d think. An online dating profile is not a substitute for the real deal, but you must maintain your profile so that it represents you accurately. Change is inevitable, and your online dating profile should portray that; it should be about the person you are at that moment, not a version from your past. Post recent photos, and use your wit when it comes to writing your bio; all in all, don’t go stale.

  1. Make sure you are honest

Transparency and vulnerability are essential for developing genuine connections. Allow people to become acquainted with the real you. Engage in genuine interactions with others, inquire about their life, and share yours. Ask them what they want and tell them about your preferences. For example, if someone expresses an interest in tying the knot in the near future when it’s not on your mind, tell them so. And, don’t play along when someone wants a casual thing in the hopes of tricking them into a relationship. You’ll just end up hurting yourself.

  1. A witty icebreaker

Openers like ‘Hi’ or ‘How are you?’ are incredibly dull and will end the conversation as soon as it starts. So instead, be interesting; show them that you have read their profile by remarking or questioning anything they’ve said or a specific photo. You might also inquire about a specific shared experience, such as an approaching holiday, how unpredictable the last few years have been, or anything special to your location.

  1. Ease into it

Online dating is a process. Getting to know someone and finding the perfect match takes time. Approach each date with the sole objective of getting to meet your date as an individual and not simply as a possible companion. Permit yourself to slow down and take a breather once in a while. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you are happy. There is no sense in rushing the process, be patient and open to new experiences.

  1. Be respectful

Don’t be disheartened if someone does not reply to your first or second messages; ignore them. Either they are not online and will see your texts when they return, or they have and are simply not interested in it. Accept the rejection and respect their time.

Dating may differ from the last time, but it’s more vital than ever to try new things, have fun, and stay in the moment. Follow these tips to help you get back in the game feeling prepared and ready to take on it!
