Someone may choose to register for the online or phone service to use in the future.
But otherwise, individuals can write to NS&I to tell them about an unclaimed prize.
One of the key advantages of registering for the online and phone service, NS&I states, is that future prizes can be paid straight into a person’s bank account.
This is part of the service NS&I is offering as it slowly phases out the Premium Bond prize warrant cheque that perhaps many people are used to.
The savings institution is to let NS&I savers know in due course when they will no longer be able to receive the warrant in the post.
NS&I has created many millionaires, as well as other high value winners through Premium Bonds.
Last month, NS&I shared the prize fund climbed to over £89million, creating over 3.1million winners.
But the most lucky people clinched the £1million jackpot, with two individuals waking up significantly richer.
The first millionaire was from Surrey, with a winning Bond number of 436VB112388.
This was purchased only months ago in February 2021, which is likely to delight the winner.
The second person to win the £1million prize came from Wiltshire, with a winning number of 340LX170519.
This person had a total holding of £34,000, and they purchased this in September 2018.
