Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Toronto Masters 1000 event this week due to his ongoing foot injury. The Spaniard was dumped out of the Washington Open at the last 16 stage last week and has been struggling with the problem.
It is less than ideal for Nadal as he looks to win his 21st Grand Slam at the US Open at the end of the month.
The Spaniard joins world number one Novak Djokovic in pulling out of the event with the Serbian opting for more rest after the Olympics.
Nadal has had success at the Toronto Masters in the past but said this was the only decision he could make if he wants to compete at Flushing Meadows.
“I really wanted to play here a lot, but now is the moment to make a decision, and this is unfortunately the decision that I have taken,” he said.
