Rafael Nadal told he went against 'athletes' code' in stinging criticism of Novak Djokovic

After losing his semi-final the previous day, shutting down his chances of winning the gold medal and achieving the calendar ‘Golden Slam’, the Serb managed to force a third set against Carreno Busta, having looked lost as he dropped the first.

His frustrations took over when he failed to capitalise on a break point opportunity in the first game of the decisive final set and, at deuce, the world number one threw his racket into the empty stands after failing to chase down an impressive drop shot from the Spaniard on the other side of the net.

While he failed to bring home any hardware at Tokyo 2020, Djokovic still has his sights set on the US Open, which begins later this month, where he could achieve the calendar Grand Slam.

Speaking on his rival’s chances of winning all four Majors in one year, Nadal simply said: ““He’s already won three, so when you win three, you can win four, without a doubt.”
