Should EU be doing that!? Angela Merkel and VDL fluster over bizarre handshake -VIDEO

2 mins read

The German Chancellor looked utterly horrified after the European Commission president approached with open arms to greet her at the EU summit in what appeared to be confusion over Coronavirus rules at the meeting.

But the outgoing German Chancellor appears to gather herself and accept that a handshake is a somewhat acceptable form of greeting at the summit.

Despite this, she appears to then thrust a clenched fist towards the Commission President as if to punch her hands.

Ms von der Leyen then appears to grasp Ms Merkels fist in what turns out to be a bizarre handshake.

The pair appear to laugh off the awkward interaction before Ms von der Leyen moves on from Ms Merkel to greet other delegates at the summit.

It comes as state leaders in Germany will on Friday urge German lawmakers to maintain the health emergency-status which is due to end in November.

They will demand mask wearing rules continue to be followed and a continuation of the use of vaccination passports as well as the requirement to prove a negative test when participating in indoor activities.

Germany has recorded 95,000 deaths from Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
