Sir Tom Jones 2021 tour dates and tickets: Welsh legend is ready to get back on the road

6 mins read

Sir Tom Jones was all set for his 80th birthday celebration tour last year before the pandemic hit. But now, following the release of his new album Surrounded By Time, the Welsh singer is ready for a whole host of rescheduled dates in the summer. Appearing on Lorraine this morning, he shared how he and his team have been well prepared for over a year.

Sir Tom said: “Oh definitely! We were ready before the Covid thing.

“I was 79 and I was coming up to my 80th birthday and I thought, ‘Oh great! This is going to be great now 2020.’

“‘I’ll be 80, I feel great, my voice is working. I’ve got a great band. We’re going to go out on tour, this is going to be great.’”

But when the pandemic shut down those plans, the music legend was concerned about how long it would keep him from the stage.

With the release of his new album last week, Sir Tom said of performing those songs in the future: “There’s nothing like a live show to find out what the people think of what you’re doing and I love that.”

The record features a whole host of covers but performed in the star’s own unique style. One track included is One More Cup of Coffee from Bob Dylan’s 1976 album Desire.

In a video posted on his Instagram account, the 80-year-old shared why he chose the song for his new album.

He said: “This song, One More Cup of Coffee, is an iconic song from Bob Dylan. Now this one to me, it just reminds you of things that maybe you have done that you shouldn’t have done. Or you’ve been to places that you shouldn’t have been.”

Sir Tom added: “You know, when I was young, you’re young and you go to places sometimes and you think ‘oh no, I might be out of my depth here.’ So then it’s like ‘One more of this or maybe I will try that one more time.’

“So I’m sure we have all got stories like that and this is a reminder to sort of try and stay away from temptation, whatever is tempting for you.

So it’s just a reminder to try and fight off the temptations and get out of there before you have to go down to the valley below.”
