A stand collapsed after the final whistle of a Dutch football match on Sunday as Vitesse fans celebrated their 1-0 victory over NEC in the Eredivisie. It is currently unknown whether any of the supporters have been injured in the terrifying incident.

A video posted on Twitter by Football For All showed the stand collapsing as the Vitesse players celebrated on the pitch in front of the visiting supporters.

The away players looked visibly shocked following the incident as one player put his hands to his head, fearing the worst.

But the players continued with their jubilant celebrations just seconds afterwards after the fans appeared to have had a lucky escape.

Nikolai Baden Frederiksen had struck the only goal of the game as Vitesse moved up to sixth in the Eredivisie table.

The incident, which occurred at the Goffertstadion will raise huge concerns over the safety of supporters in stadiums across Europe.

The Goffertstadion was originally opened in July 1939 by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. At the turn of the millennium, it was rebuilt into a modern stadium with the seats covered and heated.

There weren’t thought to be any concerns over the safety of any stands before Sunday’s match.

The first match in the new Goffertstadion was played in September 1999, with the grand reopening taking place in January 2000.
