Trump in blistering attack on Biden over Afghanistan evacuations – 'How many terrorists?'

The former US president bashed Mr Biden’s evacuation efforts, claiming that terrorists are evacuated from the Kabul airport while US citizens remain in the capital. On Tuesday, Mr Trump attacked the US President in a statement, which contradicts his former support for evacuating Afghan civilians.

“Biden surrendered Afghanistan to terrorists and left thousands of Americans for dead by pulling out the Military before our citizens,” the 45th US President said.

“Now we are learning that out of the 26,000 people who have been evacuated, only 4,000 are Americans.”

Mr Trump added that “you can be sure the Taliban, who are now in complete control, didn’t allow the best and brightest to board these evacuation flights.”

According to the Pentagon, so far 64,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan.

Following the emergency virtual meeting among the G7 leaders, the UK and other members of the countries pressured the US to delay its withdrawal of troops in order to carry out evacuations.

Boris Johnson said that the deadline currently in place on August 31 will not be sufficient to carry out evacuations.

The Prime Minister said that the UK will continue evacuations “until the last moment”.

However, Mr Biden has said that the US is “currently on pace” to reach the deadline at the end of August.

“The sooner we finish the better,” the US President said.
