When Priti Patel isn’t busy running the Home Office, she is at home relaxing with her family: husband Alex and 13-year-old son Freddie. Ms Patel has kept focus on her political career, rarely bringing her family life with her into the spotlight. However some glimpses shared on her Instagram page hint at the Home Secretary’s home life in Essex.
Priti Patel and her husband Alex Sawyer – a marketing consultant who worked as Ms Patel’s office manager until 2017 – are believed to be living in Witham, Essex.
Ms Patel and Mr Sawyer wed in 2004 after meeting while working in public relations.
Almost six years later, in 2010, Ms Patel was elected as the MP for Witham.
Ms Patel already had ties to Essex as although she grew up in Hertfordshire, she did a postgraduate degree in British Government and Politics at the University of Essex.

The couple have one son, Freddie Sawyer, who was born in 2008 at St John’s Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.
Shortly after their son’s birth, Ms Patel proudly described him as an “Essex boy”.
She said: “He is very long and skinny. He is an Essex boy now and will be going to events and functions with me from the end of next month.
“He is part of the Witham Conservative Party.”
Ms Patel tends to keep her family life private. However she has shared the rare glimpse into their family home in Witham on her Instagram page.
In one snap, Ms Patel shows an elaborate display of presents to celebrate her son Freddie’s 10th birthday on August 7, 2018.
The proud mum captioned the snap “#HappyBirthday Our darling Freddie is #10today”.
In the sweet picture, you can see a bevy of balloons surrounding a pile of gifts for the lucky 10-year-old.
The display includes a quirky decorative grenadier guard bearing a cake with number 10 candles for the birthday boy’s special day.
Eagle-eyed viewers can spot the Home Secretary’s cream carpet and blinds, and a wooden sideboard in the background which, although obscured by the many birthday balloons, seems to be adorned with framed family photographs.
This picture suggests the Home Secretary opts for a beige and neutral colour scheme in her home, with family life taking centre stage.

In another rarely personal Instagram post from June 2, 2018, Ms Patel shared a behind the scenes shot of her home baking efforts for a cake sale in aid of the Marie Curie charity, which offers support to people living with terminal illnesses.
The picture showed a tasty-looking spread of fairy cakes and three cake loaves.
Ms Patel’s baked goods sit on top of a brown and white polka dot tablecloth, suggesting the beige and earthen tones of her living room are part of the home decor’s theme.
A similar tablecloth is available from Dunelm for just £6 – if you’d like to copy the Home Secretary’s look.

Behind the table you can see elegant french doors, presumably leading out to the family’s garden.
