They said drivers should always check their fuel hoses and “replace” any damages regularly to avoid issues.

Esports at classic car insurance firm Hagerty has warned ethanol is a “solvent” and can “eat through rubber”.

They claim tests from the Department for Transport identified a range of issues when using the new fuel in older vehicles.

These included the risk of developing blocked fuel filters, damaged fuel pumps and corrosion of the fuel tank.
