Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all strongly linked with Erling Haaland, who is fast becoming the biggest transfer saga in recent history. Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell but if a figure over £100m is offered – how can they turn that down?
With many of the top clubs around Europe chasing Haaland, it remains to be seen what will happen this summer.
Dortmund have always maintained that the 20-year-old is not for sale, yet they have priced the forward at £150m.
The Norway international has been in jaw-dropping form this season, scoring 41 times in 41 appearances – including 10 in the Champions League.
Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has jetted around Europe, along with his father Alf-Inge, to drum up interest in his services.
United, City and Chelsea are all keen on bringing the Leeds-born star to the Premier League – but who has the best chance?
It is not easy to see Haaland rocking up at Old Trafford this summer with a number of targets wanted by the Red Devils.
Though a striker is one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main priorities in the transfer window, the fee alone is enough to put United off.
With Jadon Sancho firmly in their sights, a second raid on Dortmund would be unthinkable.
However, Solskjaer knows the striker well and coached him when in charge of Molde – and that Norwegian connection could be what pulls off this deal for United.
They have the finances, they have the manager – and with Sergio Aguero leaving they have the motivation to sign Haaland to go straight up top.
The thought of the youngster slotting straight into City’s attack is frightening considering the options Pep Guardiola already has.
Whether the Catalan coach would want to spend close to £150m on Haaland remains to be seen, though, with him preferring to utilise a false-nine this season.
There is also the chance to sign Harry Kane instead – who wants to leave Tottenham – so City have other targets in mind.
Perhaps seen as a longshot this summer but winning the Champions League has changed everything at Stamford Bridge.
Roman Abramovich is keen on bolstering his squad this summer while Thomas Tuchel believes an elite striker would be the missing piece to an already-expensive jigsaw puzzle.
Nevertheless, Chelsea have the means to go all out and land Haaland while beating City in the Champions League final would have alerted the young forward, who is desperate to win the competition himself.
If the Blues do manage to land the former RB Salzburg man, they would immediately make themselves one of the favourites to topple City’s dominance in the Premier League
