'Hope she will give out names' Former friend says Maxwell 'is a scapegoat for Epstein'

Former model and ex-girlfriend of Prince Andrew, Lady Victoria Hervey, said that she hoped the disgraced accomplice of the late Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in prison while awaiting charges of sex abuse, coughs up names in order for others to face justice and not just her.

It comes as Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty of five out of the six charges in her trial of recruiting and grooming teenage girls for sexual encounters with Epstein, including sex trafficking a minor, dating between 1994 and 2004.

But speaking to ITV’s Lorraine Kelly, Lady Hervey claimed that while Maxwell “enabled” his horrific activity with minors, the daughter of newspaper proprietor Robert Maxwell was a “victim” of Epstein.

She added that while Maxwell is yet to name names, she is “hoping” she does so she can receive a “lesser jail sentence”.

Ms Hervey told Lorraine: “She hasn’t really named any new names yet.

“I am hoping for the people involved, for a lesser jail sentence, she will start giving out some names.

“But I don’t think we are quite there yet, especially with the situation of the jury member.”

The jury member in question told reporters that he was sexually abused as a child, which has sparked Maxwell’s lawyers to call for a retrial, claiming the case was unfairly influenced. The unidentified juror is the second to make such a claim.

Both told the jury during deliberations of their own experiences which they argue helped fellow jurors understand the issue better. Both stories were revealed in interviews with the Independent and New York Times respectively.

Lady Hervey added: “Some might argue it is not quite as fair as it could be.”

Lawyers for Maxwell have until January 19 to appeal.

Judge Alison Nathan has not revealed when Maxwell will be sentenced, but she also faces two separate perjury counts that will be tried at a later date.

Maxwell is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan detention center, she has been held in isolation at the detention center since July 2020.
